The Fifth Estate is a film based on real events and reveals the quest to expose the deceptions and corruptions of power that turned an Internet upstart into the 21st century’s most fiercely debated organization.

Fifth Estate

According to the filmmakers, The Fifth Estate is based on the books “Inside WikiLeaks” by former WikiLeaks spokesperson Daniel Domscheit-Berg, the Guardian book “WikiLeaks,” and “an endless supply of articles and documentaries.”

Benedict Cumberbatch, the breakout star of Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), plays as Julian Assange in The Fifth Estate, with Daniel Bruhl co-starring as Domscheit-Berg, Assange’s partner and eventual colleague who over the course of their friendship becomes the antagonist of the film. This film tracks the relationship between the two friends as WikiLeaks becomes more and more infamous for its information leaks on governments and organizations.

We’re definitely going to keep an eye out for The Fifth Estate with its exploration of such realistic and complicated issues you can bet your bottom dollar that it’s not just going to be one of those boring contemporary spy films, this one comes with a complete twist of its own.
